Back in the day , we used to make character maquettes in clay at Disney , which were cast in resin for the lead animators and lead key assistants , but for other people on the crew we'd put the maquettes on a turntable and photograph it from all different angles, then print out those photos so everyone on the crew would have reference material on what the character looked like from different views.
